Parks Orlando Florida – We Have Parks in Orlando Florida Besides the Theme Kind

There are some great parks in Orlando Florida. Actually that is only partially true because the parks are mainly located in surrounding areas, but there are some nice surrounding area state parks. Orlando Florida is of course well known for theme parks but you might want to visit these other types of parks during your stay here.

There is Hontoon Island State Park in Deland which is great for camping. It’s a neat little park that is not crowded at all and you have to access it by ferry or by your own boat on the St Johns River. I’ve explored this park and it was practically deserted the day we were there. They have a little store at the entrance and there are also “rustic” cabins you can camp out in, as well as camp sites and hiking trails. Lots of wildlife too along with a little visitor center where you can learn about the history of the island. It’s really quite interesting. You can go boating, canoeing, and fishing, or you can have a picnic. Located off of state road 44 or access it via the St Johns River.

Lake Louisa State Park is located in Clermont, not too far from Orlando. Clermont is an absolutely beautiful place, I highly recommend you take a drive out there during your stay in Orlando. Think all of Florida is flat? You’ll change your mind after visiting Clermont. I’ve actually been wanting to take my horse out to Lake Louisa because they have some good trails there but it’s so much easier for me to ride closer to home. Anyway, this park is famous for its 6 lakes, typical rolling hills of Lake County, and beautiful scenery. Lake Louisa is one of a chain of 13 lakes (it is the largest one) connected by the Palatlakaha River. At this park you can enjoy such activities as fishing, canoeing, kayaking, camping, hiking, horseback riding, and wildlife-watching. There are 15 miles of horse trails. I really need to get over there and try them!

Well those are two of the parks Orlando Florida has to offer, or at least the surrounding areas, and they are a lot cheaper than the theme parks.
