Lynx Orlando – Is it Safe to Use the Lynx Buses to Get Around Orlando?
Getting around Orlando without a car can sometimes be a puzzle. Orlando spans quite a large area, and if you don’t have your own transportation, the Lynx Orlando buses seem to be a viable option. But is it safe to use the Lynx buses to get around Orlando?
Remember, you’ll be waiting at bus stops, sometimes alone, oftentimes in areas where there are not too many people around. Do you need to worry about crime? Or should I say do you need to worry more than usual about crime, since no matter where you go you are going to find some problems with this.
From what I can gather from all of my research on the subject, people feel that riding on the Orlando Lynx buses is perfectly safe, just as safe as driving your own car to the grocery store or mall and walking in from the parking lot. However, you’ll want to use common sense and not do things like sitting at a deserted bus stop in a very sparsely populated area with no one around at 2 in the morning. That’s just asking for trouble.
If I were using the bus on a regular basis I’d probably carry something like some mace or pepper spray just to be on the safe side. Even if you are not riding public transportation, this is a good idea anyway.
But not to worry too much because most of the stops where you change buses or wait for a bus are in very public areas like shopping centers, malls, stores, etc, and they are relatively well lit, so you won’t be sitting there in the dark with no one around. It’s quite highly unlikely you’ll be sitting in the middle of nowhere waiting on a bus. Why would they place a bus stop there? No one would be around to use it.
But just keep in mind that Orlando is a relatively large city so just be smart about it. Many people have chosen to give up their car and ride the bus because of the rise in gas prices, and they are happily going about their days using public transportation with no problems at all. So is it safe to use the Lynx Orlando buses? I say it is. The drivers are great and really friendly for the most part, and I think you’ll enjoy the Lynx public transportation system in the Central Florida area.
