Lakes in Orlando Florida – What Can You Do For Fun on the Lakes in Orlando?

Planning a Florida vacation near a lake and want to know what there is to do? Fortunately there are many lakes in Orlando Florida and surrounding areas, so you’ll find plenty of fun water activities.

First of all it’s pretty fun to just relax along the shore. There’s plenty to see because if it’s a nice day you’ll usually find people out water-skiing, jet skiing, and the like.

You can swim, of course, but some of the lakes are not exactly crystal clear so do this at your own peril. Now if you are at a springs like Wekiva Springs or Rock Springs, these are awesome places to go swimming. And the bonus is that these waters stay at a consistent temperature year-round, about 72 degrees. So when the air temperature is in the high 90s, 72 feels wonderful and even cold! In the wintertime it feels warm. In the springs you can go snorkeling or tubing or swimming. Sometimes you might even see a manatee if you are at Blue Spring State Park.

On the lakes, you can rent a boat if you don’t own one. I like the pontoons. Sailing is a lot of fun also if you know how. You can rent those type of boats as well. For people who enjoy the snail’s pace…..er a slower pace….you can even rent a paddle boat. Too much work for me! Another choice is to rent a canoe. I’ve done that before and boy is it a lot of work. It can be fun though to canoe down the river, and it’s cheap too.

Fishing is another activity you might enjoy. Just know that fishermen in Florida take their fishing seriously. If you enjoy peace and solitude and like waking up early (like 3 a.m.) and heading out to the lake or river, you may enjoy fishing on the lakes in Orlando Florida. There are also fishing competitions just about every weekend. Go down to the boat launch areas of the big lakes and you’ll find plenty of information there either on bulletin boards or from other people launching in and out of the lake. It’s fun to watch too.

Other activities to enjoy are tubing (pulling a tube behind the boat), wakeboarding, parasailing, and of course water skiing.

Take advantage of the lakes in Orlando Florida and try some of these activities on your next trip.
