Are the Hotels on International Drive Safe?
Q: Is it safe to stay at the hotels on International Drive?
A: International Drive is most definitely a touristy section of the Orlando area, and this is where you will find a lot of shops selling 5 T-shirts for 10 dollars, stores selling seashells, and so on. Lots and lots of motels and hotels too, and plenty of people walking around at all hours of the day and night.
So the question is, is this a safe place to stay for your trip? You can get some very good deals on accommodations but should you?
I have never had a problem over on I-drive, and don’t know of anyone who has. However, the nicer area is going to be headed over toward Sand Lake Road, and the not quite as nice area would be the opposite direction toward Wet n Wild.
To stay safe, choose a hotel where you cannot access the rooms except by entering through the front lobby. In other words, steer clear (if possible) of the el cheapo motels where you park by your room and enter by a door that leads to the outside. I have not ever heard of any rooms being broken into in one of the aforementioned types of hotels with the lobby entrance. They are very safe and usually even have security guards and certainly have employees monitoring.
If you are strapped for cash and can only afford the cheaper motels, don’t worry too much. All in all, International Drive is a relatively safe area. You should be just fine.
